Gardening Activities You Can Do With Your Kids

Who would have thought that egg carton has other function apart from holding eggs? Egg carton can be turn into a planter! Here’s how:

  • What You’ll Need:
  • old egg carton
  • seeds of your preference
  • seed starting soil
  • stick
  • bowl
  • water
  • small waterproof tray
  • clothes pin

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, put the seed starting soil and spray some water on it. Make sure to achieve a damp texture, not a dripping one. Doing this means that you do not need to water the seed once you already place it on the egg carton.
  2. Then, keep mixing the soil until it hardens and sticks with your hand.
  3. Fill your egg carton with the seed starting soil. Make sure to leave at least a centimeter between the top of the soil and the rim of the carton. There should be enough space since the seed needs a room to grow.
  4. Then, plant your desired seeds. Remember that the seeds need a securecontact with the soil.
  5. To set up the greenhouse, place the egg carton on your small waterproof tray. Make sure that your chosen tray will fit inside a plastic bag since you will be placing the tray inside the plastic bag.
  6. Then, pull up the two side of the plastic bag and close it.
  7. Using the clothes pin, lift the two sides of the plastic bag. This trick will help the interior’s temperature to rise, which encourages the growth of your seedlings.
  8. Lastly, make sure to place your egg carton greenhouse in sunny position.

Fun activity with Grandparents 2

Elderly in home care services are becoming a more popular option for senior citizens – particularly because they are no longer forced to leave their beloved homes in order to live in nursing homes. They also get to stay in an environment that is more familiar and comfortable to them.

Because of this their family members, especially their grandchildren can visit them at any particular time they would want to. This would mean they have more time to spend together and bond through numerous activities. Here are some examples of fun activities they can do together.

Bake

Children can learn a lot from baking. Grandparents could share their knowledge about a certain recipe that has been passed on from generation to generation. This is one way they could definitely pass this information on so that it will remain the family in the future.

Furthermore, young children can learn different things such as developing patience, how to follow instructions, and planning through baking. Plus, the lot of them could enjoy the final product of their labours in the form of cookies, cakes, pies, etc.

Video Games

Playing video games can be considered as an unorthodox way to bond grandparents and their grandchildren together – especially considering the huge generation gap between these two. However, this is one of the best way children could teach their grandparents new things and experiences. They are also bound to have a good time regardless of whether they are winning or losing the game.

Board Games and Card Games

Recreational activities such as card games and board games are another great ways for grandchildren and grandparents to spend time together. Both of them can exercise their mind to one up each other.

There are many games they can try like mahjongg, gin rummy, and bridge for card games; and Monopoly, Snake and Ladders, as well as Scrabble for board games.

Scavenger Hunt

A game of treasure hunt or scavenger hunt can turn walks between grandparents and grandchildren really interesting. Grandparents can make a list of things grandchildren would need to look for like a feather, a Y-shaped twig, or a red leaf. You can also hand out rhyming clues instead to older children who may find the first option boring.

You can also set up your very own scavenger hunt in your own house and backyard, if you rather stay indoors instead of heading out.

Family Albums

Family (picture) albums are becoming rarer and rarer these days; however it became really abundant back in the days. Grandparents will surely have a whole stack of them to record important events like weddings, birthdays, and Christmases.

Fun activity with Grandparents

Grandparents and grandchildren can sit together to take a look at these photos that are surely going to reveal stories of the past. Young children can learn some antics their parents did back in the days when they used to be as young as they currently are.

This activity is said to be nostalgic as well as therapeutic – particularly for grandparents.

House Renovations

House renovation activities do not have to be major for a bonding experience between grandparents and their grandchildren. They can be as simple as gardening or decluttering especially if you are working with small children. This activities will surely help them make new memories together as well as beautify their homes and living spaces.

There are many activities grandparents and grandchildren can try out. Look for one that both of you can enjoy together!

by Khirol HazwanJune 25, 2016

Benny Harlem is an aspiring singer, songwriter, model and, most importantly, amazing dad. Benny and his 6-year-old daughter Jaxyn are gaining more and more attention due to their special bond and unique looks. This amazing dad shows a great example to his little girl of how to show confidence in everything you do and embrace your heritage. Benny says that his, as parent’s, job is to protect and grow his child. By showing so much attention and care he hopes that Jaxyn will grow up to be a confident and strong person.

Their beautiful father-daughter love is not the only thing that this duo shares – they both rock amazing hairdos. Little Jaxyn looks confident and happy in her own skin so you can’t deny that Benny is doing a great job being a role model.

‘Fatherhood is a miracle and an honor’

‘My only concern of my daughter is the nobility of her character. I teach her to demand respect’

‘She’s a beautiful girl who’s gonna be a pretty woman, but I teach her to love herself first’

‘The only way for me to protect her for life is to prepare her for life’

‘I am my daughter’s keeper’

‘I put my child on a pedestal. What my daughter knows is that if she loves herself first, love will align in her friendships, relationships, and all aspects of her life’

Man Fed Up With Immigration Debate Buys His Own Newspaper Ad

by Khirol HazwanJune 23, 2016

Anybody who’s been following the news will no doubt be aware that today is the day that the UK votes on whether to leave or remain in the European Union. And if you have been following it, you’ll no doubt be aware of what a boring and propaganda-fueled debate it is. Misinformation abounds, and nobody can agree on anything except that the apocalypse is coming one way or another. But one man has decided to take a stand against all of this nonsense. His name is Laurence Taylor and he’s become something of an overnight hero after taking out a full page advert in the Metro Newspaper.

“I’m fed up with the rubbish being talked about immigration,” read the advert. “Vote Remain Or Leave, up to you, but do it based on facts not fear.” Above the text is a pie-chart illustrating the reality about immigration – one of the debate’s most contentious topics. And with this simple gesture, Mr. Taylor just won the vote of millions.

9-Year-Old Wedding Photographer That Brides Are Demanding

by Khirol HazwanJune 22, 2016

Meet Regina Wyllie – a Scotland-based 9-year-old wedding photographer who is definitely going places. Ever since she was 3 years old and she tagged along with her father, professional photographer Kevin Wyllie (KSG Photography), to a mountain bike race, she has had a passion for photography. She simply dropped her toy camera and grabbed her dad’s Canon G9, and started shooting the bikes. From then on, Regina started asking questions and little by little learning how to compose the perfect photo.

Now the 9-year-old is fast on track, as she’s being requested personally by brides to accompany her father’s wedding shoots. But not only are wedding clients requesting the youngster, when she was 7 years old, a photo she took at one of Kevin’s “trash the dress” shoots was picked up for a ThinkTank campaign. Not to mention when Kevin was asked to shoot a comedian for a local magazine, Regina tagged along and, of course, her shot was picked over her father’s for the magazine!

The moral of the story? Don’t underestimate 9-year-olds.

Realistic Wooden Food By Seiji Kawasaki

by Khirol HazwanJune 21, 2016

Meet Seiji Kawasaki – a Japanese wood carving artist who creates ultra-realistic looking food made out of wood. Shrimp, bread, fish, potato chips, croissants – he has created them all and more! But it’s not just his carving skills that make the little sculptures look so realistic, it’s his ability to paint them with such detail.

In an interview with Bored Panda Kawaski said the theme of his work is “emergence of qualia“. “I’d like to eat.” “It seems good.” – these are positive, direct and subjective feelings. The person who looks at my work feels like eating even though he knows that it is actually wood. I think that’s very interesting. I think at the same time, my work is also a fan art of food. I’m a fan of food.”, – Kawaski told Bored Panda.

by Khirol HazwanJune 20, 2016

Anyone who’s dreamed of walking on water now has the chance to do so! Well, that is if you could make it to Lake Iseo in northern Italy in the next three weeks. Just opened on Saturday and accessible until July 3rd is Christo’s and his late wife’s, Jeanne-Claude’s, major installation – “The Floating Piers“. This 3km (almost 2 miles) floating walkway across Italy’s lake Iseo is made of 200,000 high-density polyethylene cubes and is covered in 100,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric, which changes colors throughout the day to a shimmering gold and a reddish hue when wet. Here visitors are able to walk from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo, which it encircles.

“They will feel the movement of the water under foot,” Christo said. “It will be very sexy, a bit like walking on a water bed.” Also, he recommends walking barefoot for the ultimate experience. If you have the chance to visit, let us know what you think!

More info: thefloatingpiers.com

Without charging any viewing fees

“Like all of our projects, ‘The Floating Piers’ is absolutely free and accessible 24 hours a day, weather permitting,” Christo says

“There are no tickets, no openings, no reservations and no owners”

“The Floating Piers are an extension of the street and belong to everyone”

So if you’re in the area…
